19 of the Russian's 21 championships have been achieved on hard courts

A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden trophy for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament final.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has experienced a difficult period, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serving in especial - led to him exiting of the top ten and finally parting ways with former trainer his previous coach.

Now working with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought three-set victory over challenger Moutet.

It is his first title after the Rome competition and initial on a hard surface since spring of 2023.

Success also means he has won 21 championships at 21 different events.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my two daughters at once, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," said tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had failed in his previous six title deciders, including in the German tournament earlier this year.

Medvedev's counter-punching approach and regular reactions on the playing surface had prompted commentators to question if his capacity to perform at the elite level was over.

However the athlete has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to come to the net and play assertively, backed up by an enhanced service.

He came back from a deficit in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, securing 4 of the concluding five games to take the lead.

Both players swapped break points in the second set before the challenger, striving for his initial ATP Tour title, gained dominance to create a decider.

The opponent saved four early-game break points in a tight third set before Medvedev broke to 15 to close out the victory.

Appropriately, Medvedev secured victory with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to control a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
